The gel to be applied may be hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. Therefore, you should have a consultation with a specialised professional, in order to analyse if you are allergic to any component or if your oral health allows you to perform a successful whitening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" src=\"https:\/\/cunhacoutinhosaude.pt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/clareamento-a-laser.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:100%\" class=\"wp-image-4513\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cunhacoutinhosaude.pt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/clareamento-a-laser.jpg 800w, https:\/\/cunhacoutinhosaude.pt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/clareamento-a-laser-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cunhacoutinhosaude.pt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/clareamento-a-laser-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cunhacoutinhosaude.pt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/clareamento-a-laser-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two types of whitening: external or internal tooth whitening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>External tooth whitening involves the application of a whitening gel by an oral hygienist, a process that lasts between 30 and 60 minutes. It is a relatively quick process considering the effect that comes from it. This process is non-abrasive and does not weaken the teeth. It has a long-lasting effect, through eating habits and oral health, whitening can last between 1 to 3 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Evaluating each patient's history, it can sometimes leave teeth sensitive during or after treatment. The main reason is the absorption of the peroxide by the \"nerve\" of the tooth which can cause inflammation and generate tooth sensitivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bleaching involves avoiding habits, foods and drinks rich in colourants, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tobacco<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tea<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Coffee<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Red wine<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sour fruits, etc...<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The less you consume of these products, the longer your whitening lasts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It should be noted that teeth with restorations\/stains or delicate structural conditions may need to have internal bleaching performed on these specific teeth, as the external procedure does not have the specific adherence for these cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"945\" height=\"665\" src=\"https:\/\/cunhacoutinhosaude.pt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/lente-de-contato-dental76936876_89117000.png\" style=\"width:100%\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4514\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cunhacoutinhosaude.pt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/lente-de-contato-dental76936876_89117000.png 945w, https:\/\/cunhacoutinhosaude.pt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/lente-de-contato-dental76936876_89117000-300x211.png 300w, https:\/\/cunhacoutinhosaude.pt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/lente-de-contato-dental76936876_89117000-768x540.png 768w, https:\/\/cunhacoutinhosaude.pt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/lente-de-contato-dental76936876_89117000-18x12.png 18w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 945px) 100vw, 945px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>To summarise,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is a quick process (30-60 min),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is not an abrasive process<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Does not weaken teeth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It has a long-lasting effect (between 1 and 3 years)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can make teeth sensitive<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There are some foods to avoid (rich in colourants)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>May not work on some stains and\/or discolourations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised against this procedure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To find out more about this procedure, how and when you can use this intervention, have a diagnostic consultation with your dentist.
